Global Warming Thoughts

The following is something I posted on myspace (Stump Daddy). I got some interesting reactions so I thought I would toss it over here. Enjoy.

Global Warming? Seriously?

Before anybody gets their undies in a wad, just read the comments and see if this logic doesn't make sense. The biggest proponent of Global Warming is Al Gore. Al Gore, in public, claimed to have started the internet. Same guy said he built one of his homes himself; with his own hands.

I'll let those thoughts stand on their own.

A. Water is an interesting thing. It is at it's smallest when it is fluid. The oddity of water is that it gets larger when it turns to vapor and also when it turns to ice.We have been told that with Global Warming, the ice caps/ice bergs will melt and the earth will be flooded.

We have been told that under "the tip of the iceberg" is the majority of the iceberg. The majority of the iceberg is already taking up space under water.

So the earth warms up and the ice berg melts;THE ACTUAL VOULME IN THE WATER WILL DECREASE BECAUSE THE ICE IS TURNING TO LIQUID, IT'S SMALLEST STATE OF EXISTENCE.

B. Explorer's have found Wooly Mammoths buried in the ice within the polar ice cap. When the disected these well preserved, frozen specimens, they found green vegitation of a jungle variety, semi digested in the mammoth's stomach.

So the mammoth is around the equator and has a snack of his favorite veg and then strolls north without digesting his meal then dies?

Nope. The earth is always changing. At one point there was rich vegitation in the polar regions. Why not now? BECAUSE SOMETHING HAPPENED TO MAKE THE CHANGE. WHAT HAPPENED? I DON'T KNOW. I SEE THE RESULTS THOUGH.

Wait a minute; a molecule of water saw the nice polar area with the jungle motif and decided to come ashore and chill. So did millions of his buddies and boy did they chill. Then soon enough, the polar region is frozen and the Wooly Mammoth stayed frozen forever after with undigested plants in his stomach The end.

Yeah right. Bite me.

The earth is always cycling and it's not our fault. Please, we can't even hit 50% on weather forecasts and with the part we get right we can't control anything other than kissing our butt goodbye if the tornado of the century hits.

We caused the warming? Nope. Tis a cycle my friends. This is not to say we should run willy nilly into the streets and dump our collection of McDonalds styrafoam Big Mac containers into the sewers. No, we need to take care of what has been entrusted to us to the best of our ability.

Don't blame me for the warming. I do blame Al for much of the stupidity.

Thanks for playing along.

Wed Cardio

30 min eliptical (15 front 15 back) HR up to 131
12 min bike on random hr up to 123

Feeling decent. Getting to the point of be able to push through instead of just surviving. Nice to be getting into better shape.

Ward got his leave locked down for the end of May. He will be home for sure for Danielle's graduation. This is a very good thing.

DJ has his surgery on his wrist today around noon. He is nervous but it will be ok. He won't lose any range of motion but will lose a bunch of the pain he has had.

Weight is down this AM (Thurs.) to 260#. Backing into some old clothes I haven't worn in a while. This is good. God is Great!

Bike 10 min on Random level 17. HR up to 131.

With the weight loss going on I think I have been overdoing the mid week workouts. I dropped way back tonight and I feel lots better. Got a chance to work on my set up and stayed fast and focused. I think that recovery will be much easier. I am looking to see how things translate on Sat.

Bwt Tues AM 261#
Bwt Wed AM 261-262 screwy scale. I am playing with protein supplements again I'm not certain of the right balance yet to help with fat loss and to retain lean mass at the same time.

It will be interesting getting it figured out.

Ward just got on line. Technology is great as he is in Iraq now. Need to go be a Dad.

Monday Cardio

40 min eliptical (20 min back, 20 min front.)
hr up to 123 (?) maybe a little higher.

261# Monday AM
261# Tuesday AM

2 more #'s and I'll be in the 259's

Mood @ the casa is much better. A little worried about Danielle. She is on the cranky side stressing as she gets closer to graduation. I hope it eases up for her. This should be a fun time and not such a burden. It will be over soon enough. Lisa seems to be feeling better. She still seems overwhelmed with having to be the care taker for her mom, our household, her girlfriend and her husband with MS and all that she does @ work. It is a bit duanting.

Ward has been getting the crap kicked out of him in Iraq. He has been in a lot of vehicles that have taken a lot of direct fire. He has a constant headache and has ringing in his ears. No crap. Great Kid. I pray that God keeps protecting him.

Stuff to do.

Sunday

Bike on random 45 minutes.

Some calf stuff
Some db curl stuff

Scale was screwy this AM. I think I was 262 again or it could have been 297. The scale was fritzing pretty bad.

Went out to Iggy's last night with Lisa and had the salmon. Very good stuff. Topped with pico de gallo with steamed veggies and almond rice. Pretty good. Much better than the mango salmon that I had earlier in the week @ the Skybox.

Another good sermon this week. Shawn B. is a very mature speaker for being under 30. Stays in the Word and has great cross referencing and good application. Ephesians 2:14-20(?) today. Good stuff.

Kids are moving stuff out of storage to the new place today. I guess the move is real. Praise God. They need there space and Lord knows we need ours.

If you think about it, drop a prayer or 8 for my son Ward. They had a mission go south a couple days ago. Nobody killed but the squad leader was injured enough that he is shipping stateside. Ward is bummed. that is the 2nd of his immediate leaders that are gone now. It is a hard thing to be over there.

Dishes to clean up.

Sat ME Bench

Situps
Hip swings
Shoulder complex

Flat bench
2 x ??? x 135
5 x `135
5 x 225
3 x 275
1 x 315 way too hard
2 x 315 x 3 board way too hard
2 x 325 x 3 board easier?
2 x 335 x 3 board still easier?
1 x 345 x 3 board

Straight bar pushdowns
8 x 135
4 x 8 x 190 (stack)

Bent over rear flies
3 x 8 x 40's

40 minutes on bike on random level 13. Heart rate got to 123.

Ok the bench fiasco... Some of the problem was due to weight loss, some was due to crappy form and I believe some of it was due to me playing with too high a percentage on Tuesday. I started out at like 85% and dropped to between 75-80%. I will try knocking my support stuff waaaay back this Tuesday and work Prilepin's chart at around 50-60% to see how that goes next Saturday.

Bwt 262# this AM.

I had to go help on a test install of a thin film protective coating for out indoor modular courts. I'm not certain about the little bubbles that showed up in it but if it flattens out and looks clear when cured, it could be a real good product for us.

I got home today and the house was quiet. Danielle was at work, Lisa was taking a nap and Dave, Mandi and the kids are moving storage stuff to the new casa. PRAISE GOD! I won't be going to prison for killing people in my sleep. They may not move out till after DJ's wrist surgery on the 29th but just knowing that there is a light at the end of the tunnel and it's not a train feels real good.

Gotta fly.

Thurs back & bi's

Sit ups

Conventional DL's
4-5 sets each x 1 x 135, 225, 275 & 315

CS Rows
5 x 90
5 x 135
3 x 5 x 165

Plate load curl machine
I don't know what but it was for like for 6 sets of 5

Bike
20 min random. Peak HR was 121.

Haven't pulled in forever. Now that my weight is down some I can get down on the bar conventional. This will be better because of the way my knees have worn by going wide stance all the time in sports and lifting. The dl's didn't feel too bad. I like doing singles with little rest in between. The medial portion of my left knee is a bit tender today. Nothing major. It just knows it did something yesterday. Form wasn't the best but it didn't feel too bad. Well except for the last single. I was in a hurry and it was more of a Bud Davis stiff leg attempt. Easy but ugly.

Thurs AM bwt 263#
Fri AM bwt 263#

DJ is getting a new job with a hidden blind company. That and them moving is all good in my book. I am starting to become a happier camper.

Ward is home for leave in less than 2 months.

Danielle graduates in a little over 2 months. I love it when a plan comes together...

More stuff but I have to go.

Thanks for playing along.

Wed cardio

Eliptical set on interval got hr up to 143.
20 min back
20 min front

Wed AM weight 264#
Thurs AM weight 263#

Work got a little dicey. Had a fairly strong difference of opinion with the new boss. Seems that there was some important information left out of the initial project request. We had two different ideas on what the goals of the project were. Go figure. Communication is huge. Seems to be ok now that the lack of direction was known. Hard to get somewhere new with only half a map.

Kids seem to have found a place. They may start to move this weekend. Sweet! God is really good.

I am @ home this AM waiting for the glass guys to come fix the back slider. It has broken casters and slides a lot like a lumpy brick plus the frame lost hardware and comes apart when one uses the handle.

Gotta go.

Switching some stuff up a little.

Situps
Hip Swings

2 x 3 x 155
5 x 135

Suspended pushups
3 x 10

lying down cable extensions
a bunch

On the bench I was messing around with some %'s that I saw in an article on efts.com

http://www.elitefts.com/documents/prilepins_chart.htm

Was planning on doing 4 x 3 @ 85% of my former raw gym max, 345#. This had me @ 293 so I dropped to 290 and it felt way heavier than it should have. I then dropped to 275 and that seemed right. Finally got my legs firing closer to how they should.

I was surprised to the negative on the push presses. I was all over the planet on these and felt like an hour old puppy strength wise. I haven't been doing much full body pressing or swings and I could really tell. it could be that the weight loss effected some stability as well. Ah well. ok workout anyway.

Work is getting busier. That's good. The day goes much quicker when there are things to take care of.

God is good. Things seem like they are shaking out to the positive at home. Dave and company are still there but the mood is lighter. This is good.

Yesterday AM weight was 262# I went out to lunch and then Applebees last night with Lisa and was 264# this AM. Temporary set back. No worries.

Monday 3/19

Morning bwt 264#

Bike 40 minutes on random got heart rate up to 130.

I know that 130 isn't that high but I am working it up slowly. Really happy with the switch to shorter more intense sessions when doing cardio. The higher intensity seems to burn more calories and do a better job in raising my metabolism.

262# Tuesday morning.

God is good.

Work is getting a little better. Again God is good.

Gotta get after it.

ME Bench

Saturday AM bwt 265# I was reminded @ the gym that I am only 6 pounds over WABDL's 259# class. Feels good. Body is much happier being lighter.

Sit ups
Shoulder Complex
Warm up Flat bench bar only

DB flat Bench
10 x 80's
4 x 5 x 110's

Flat Bench
??? x bar
5 x 275+ 4 boards
5 x 315 + 4 boards
4 x 345 + 4 boards
3 x 365 + 4 Boards

Push downs
5-6 sets I think

bent over db lateral raises
5 x 5 x 40's

30 min bike set on random I like this setting. I can get my HR up and not put too much stress on the joints.

Overall pleased with this workout, Very happy with my stroke on the lockouts especially following the DB's. 180 degrees from last week. I think the changes I've made are good ones and will stick.

Changes: Lowered work reps to max of 8 but mostly 6 and under. Used higher weights for accessory work. Switched Tuesday and Thursday around. Tuesday will be bench reps, shoulder work and tri's. Thursday will be back day. Start with GM's or light DL's then upper back rows or pull downs then some bi work.

I think I need more time to recoup from pressing and tri work. This schedule should do it.

The roar of life @ home is a little lower today. People are gone to work etc so fewer are home. I should really lighten up I think. Being bent like I have been isn't good for anybody. I haven't tried to be edgy it just kinda works out that way. I should make a better effort. Like Rodney King said "can't we all just get along". I heard a rumopr that the guy that was going to cut the kids a screaming deal on a lease may be back in the picture. God bless him.

I think the changes at work are more important to me than I originally thought. I usually use the gym as my sanctuary from the outside world. Today I kept thinking about different aspects of the firings, shufflings and people leaving on their own. Going to greatly miss the friends that are leaving/have left and it's tough right now to know who to confide in. A cloud of CYA attitude has filtered through out the building. Never been in a situation like this. Cause for prayer for sure.

Need to get in the Word more. When stuff seems broken one should go to the manual.

Gotta fly.

God Bless!

Bike
30 min random setting

Felt ok today. I meant to do the rows with 110 but grabbed a 120 by accident My grip in my right hand was a bit suspect but with some regripping was able to get it handled.

BWT 266 both Thursday and Friday. Feeling pretty good physically. Looking forward to seeing how things will feel when I drop another 30.

Work is interesting. The results of the all of the changes are not all known yet. It's been a little quiet in my cube. Things will pick up when spring has sprung. Doing some rewrites and putting out the fires.

Tired of the extra stress @ home. The kids need to get it together and get their own place.

God is good. He loves me and puts up with me. Somedays I feel so, well human. All kinds of weirdness in my life lately yet God stays God and keeps His promises. One of the primary ones for me is that regardless of my "me-ness" He continues to love me and forgive me when I come to Him with my sins (I John 1:9). Simply amazing. 2 things I need to keep in my frontal lobe, God is God and I'm not Him. Seems so simple but more often then not I try to steer the vehicle and I put my self at odds with God's plans for me. God knows the future from the past yet I think I know better? I need to get a clue, I would be much better off.

Best news, we heard from Ward Wednesday evening and he's ok. He kinda stopped our hearts for a while but we are very relieved he as alright.

Need to get busy.

Not a bad work out. A little sore this morning. Not debilitating but kind of an 'old friend' kinda sore if that makes any sense.

BWT 266# Wed's AM.

Ward told his Mom on Monday that his unit/vehicle had been hit with an IED. He said he was ok but needed to go get some sleep. We are concerned because he hasn't been on since Monday. I'm 50% concerned if that makes any sense. I will be real worried if the black gov't car hits our driveway...

God has Ward in His care. Time to let the faith do the walking.

No easy answers for that mess over there.

Monday night Tuesday AM

Tried shaking up the cardio.
Monday night I did 30 min on the bike but did the random setting and got my HR up to 134 at times. I was reading how the lower HR during training causes one to burn fat while exercising but doesn't do too much for raising your metabolism. The higher heart rate for a shorter period may not burn as much fat during the session but will burn more calories over all and raise your metabolism. worth a shot.

Tuesday AM I was 267#.

Home is really weird now. Funky moods all the way around. Not always a good time. I really regret not having a garage where I can hide until it all blows over. God knows. I need to actively rest in Him and not take things so personally. Maybe I will grow up someday.

Monday AM

268# again. Little plateau. Should see some downward movement in a day or so.

Negative vibe at the casa. Felt like I was in trouble for breathing.

Got a lot of stuff done. New hardware on bathroom door. New closer on Storm door. New washers in bath/shower fixtures. Need to get Stove and slider replaced.

Feel like the odd guy out. Damned if you do and damned if you don't. Somewhat concerned about when Dan moves out. Will we be stuck with a stranger in then house? Yup I am concerned.

Sun

Watched a chunk of Men in Black I while riding the bike for an hour at the Gold's up on 13th in Sandy.

Did some db curls and some calf stuff. Nice to get away from the house even for an hour or so.

Looking forward to some adjustments this week in reps and weights etc. Nothing earth shattering just playing around.

Sermon was good. Eph 2:1-10. Great passage. Good read.

Phil 4:6 (?) says that we should be anxious for nothing. I surely need that as I am somewhat concerned about the near future around here. Don't want to be the fifth wheel. I want to contribute and have value. I need to just chill and relax in God's plan. I hate being stressed. Blood pressure is still elevated even though I've dropped 27# (268 again tis AM.). Had a good talk with Ray Van Gilst this morning after the service. He had some good thoughts. We talked
about seasons in people's lives. He talked about how he fasts to get more in tune with God. I think I may give this a shot this week.

30 min treadmill 2.5 el & 3.6 speed

Suckiest training sesion in a long while. It could be one or a combo of 3 things: 1.The weight loss 2. I have been doing lower weight higher rep assistance work or 3. It could have been just a down day. Or perhaps I'm not getting enough protein now. I haven't been suplementing at all lately.

I feel pretty good but don't have any punch. I know I had almost no leg drive today. Odd because I usually have that dialed in pretty well. I am hoping that when I hit my goal that I can get my strength back. Not real worried. Don't like being the wussy of the workout though.

Praying for contentment for any situation God has me in. Getting some of those "what if..." odd threads going on in my head. The thoughts pop in at the weirdest times. Odd stuff that's nothing like who I really am. Don't get it. Never had them before I tuned 50. I wonder if they go away if I join AARP.

Odd week at work as well. 3 VP had their jobs eliminated. Tony got canned alltogether, Joel (my boss got made a director on the residential side in charge of product (?) odd. Kevin was turned ito a salesman which I think is a better fit for him.. He wasn't a great manager as far as I could tell. Way too ADD for that in my opinion. I now work for Joe Ure VP in charge of ALL residenial stuff. They aren't sure if I will keep handling all tech calls for Res and commercial or just res. Had a good talk with Ron C. (CEO). He was encouraging and I feel, at least for this week, that I have a job.

Earlier in the week Amy Handsgen had her last day and Kelli Nordfelt gave notice. Both bright people from the marketing group. Both were happy prior to the departure of Kevin Morgan and putting Lee in Kev's place. I think it's a safe bet that Lee's style of mgmt was way different than what anybody was used to dealing with. I've never worked for/with Lee so I can't make a call here.

Office politics are still very different. Large very real double standard for women there. Can't change it. Not my job to change it. I will bob and weave and keep my nose clean back in my cozy lil cube.

Ward's ok. Dan is healthier. Dave and Mandi are still in the basement. House is too crowded. I am pleased to say they are looking. Lisa messed up her back this week so she is kinda in pain and not feeling great.

Haven't done much research on the world scene but count on the fact that stuff will be moving according to God's plan.

270# this AM. Wt. loss seems to be going ok. Could be partly responsible for the lack of zip benching today. I'm sure there will be ups and downs strength wise until I'm at goal weight for a while.

Trying to talk Lisa into going to the Blaze (AFL) home opener tonight. She doesn't seem real excited but I'm hoping that will change.

Lot's of people have left our company since I was hired in Sept. Some significant players have been let go or have gone to greener patures. I am aware of others getting ready to take off as well. Kind of a negative energy going on. I like what I do and for the most part people are ok. There is a a real negative subcurrent there. Not thinking of jumping ship but I may if the current corporate mood doesn't change. God is good and will direct me/us to the best situation.

Got to talk to Ward again this AM. He seems in good spirits which is a plus.

Step by slow step it's coming down. I don't think I will reach my goal as quickly as I had originally thought but I understand that a slower steadier loss is easier to maintain. We'll see.

Very rough week at work. Working since '81 in basically contracting environments, it is an adjustment to work in a modern corporate setting. Lot's of politics, rumors and double standards. Just gotta stay back and do my job to the best of my ability. Being a very social person by nature, it is tough to withdraw. Better that than getting caught up in the intrigue.

God is good. This is all fine. Small bumps in a long road.

Looking forward to Sat's workout. I think like Stella, I got my groove back.

Lot's of stuff going on world wide. Here at home as well. Pay attention to all sides. Don't leave your discernment in your pocket. Lot's of adgendas out there and I would guess that most have severe downsides. Stay in the Word, fellowship and pray.

Maranatha,

God Bless
